World Tuberculosis Day 2014: Reach the 3 million

tb-2014-enTuberculosis (TB) is a curable disease, but current efforts to find, treat and cure those who are sick are not enough. Of the nine million people a year that become sick with TB, a third of them are “lost” by health systems. Many of these three million people live in the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities, or are among marginalized populations such as migrant workers, refugees and internally displaced persons, as the prisoners, indigenous peoples, ethnic minorities and drug users.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Stop TB partner are together promoting World TB Day. World TB Day provides an opportunity for the affected people and the communities in which they live, governments, civil society organizations, health professionals and international partners to call for further action to reach these 3 million people. All partners can help support innovative approaches to ensure that all suffering from tuberculosis have access to diagnosis, treatment and cure of tuberculosis.

Information sources on TB

BIREME/PAHO/WHO recommends access to documents and sources of scientific and technical information in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) related to TB, focusing on the theme of this year’s World TB Day, “Find TB. Treat TB. Working together to eliminate TB”.
