World Health Day – Food Safety

DMS15_bvssalud_enNon-secure food is linked to the death of about 2 million people per year – including many children. The food may contain harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemicals, responsible for more than 200 diseases ranging from cancer to diarrhea.

As our food supply becomes increasingly globalized, the need to strengthen the security of food systems within and between countries is becoming increasingly evident. That is why the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) are promoting efforts to improve food safety, from field to plate on World Health Day 2015.

BIREME / PAHO / WHO recommends access to documents and sources of scientific and technical information on the Virtual Health Library related to World Health Day 2015.
