The World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on November 14. The campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations. The campaign engages millions of people worldwide in diabetes awareness and prevention. The World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concern about the health hazards imposed by diabetes these days . The World Diabetes Day became an official date of the United Nations in 2007 by UN Resolution 61/225. The campaign draws attention to issues that are of fundamental importance for diabetes and keeps the disease under the spotlight. These actions are extremely important, since the prevention of risk factors such as obesity and hypertension may significantly reduce the prevalence of the disease.
