The Millennium Development Goals and the post-2015 Agenda
In September 2000, world leaders of the United Nations came together to adopt the Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and set a series of targets – with a deadline in 2015 – known as the Millennium Development goals (MDGs). The United Nations are now working to take forward the ambitious post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda, to be launched during the Summit on Sustainable Development in September.
