“Debunk the myths” is the theme for the World Cancer Day 2014

The World Cancer Day 2014 will be celebrated on February 4, supported by last year’s campaign miths platform, specifically focusing on Goal 5 of the World Cancer Declaration: Reducing stigma and dispel the myths about cancer, under the slogan: “Debunk the myths” .

The term cancer is generic and means a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the body; it also refers to malignant tumors or neoplasms.

Cancer is the rapid multiplication of abnormal cells that extend beyond normal limits and can invade adjoining parts of the body and spread to other organs. This process is called metastasis. Metastases are the major cause of cancer death.

The World Cancer Day is an opportunity to unite our voices on behalf of the dissemination of knowledge about cancer and dispel misconceptions about the disease. The campaign has the support of the World Cancer Day Advisory Group at the global level, and other health organizations worldwide.
