The COVID-19 pandemic made its mark on the world in 2020. With that backdrop, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the United Nations (UN) system are at the forefront of efforts to ensure responses leave no one behind, especially women and girls in all their diversity Women are impacted in multiple ways. Amongst these, they are particularly affected by the heightened pressure on health systems and are subject to acute and high-risk working conditions, which further increase the risk for infection among a majority female work force. Supporting women’s central and essential roles in responding to the pandemic within the health sector is therefore critical. So too is ensuring a COVID-19 national response that includes women in all their diversity as leaders and participants in the formulation of policies and programs. Join PAHO to discuss women’s leadership in and for health.
