The Ministry of Health of Nicaragua, through the Institute of Natural Medicine and Complementary Therapies (IMNTC), promotes the articulation of the Family and Community Health Model (MOSAFC) with the Ancestral Traditional Medicine of Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples. This initiative is supported by Law 759 – Ancestral Traditional Medicine Law – which protects the right to individual and collective health practices from a cultural and spiritual perspective. The policy promotes intercultural dialogue, collaborative development of care guides for culturally significant ailments (such as Grisi Sikni or snake bites), research on ancestral healing methods, and the training of traditional health practitioners. It acknowledges the multicultural and multilingual character of the country, fostering inclusion, respect, and integration of ancestral knowledge into national health strategies.
