Through Ministerial Agreement 164-2023, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) of Guatemala approved the “Guide to Intercultural Dialogues in Health” as a tool to promote active participation and coordination between the official health system and the health systems of the Maya, Garífuna, Xinka, and Mestizo/Ladino peoples. The guide’s main objective is to address health needs and issues from the perspective of the human right to health, planning joint interventions in the short, medium, and long term with cultural and intercultural relevance. It provides guidance to health teams in recognizing and incorporating Guatemala’s cultural, linguistic, and worldview diversity into the national health model, integrating medical pluralism into the delivery of care.
