The International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision included Chapter 40 on Traditional Medicines. The inclusion of a supplementary chapter on traditional medicine in ICD for the first time enabled counting of traditional medicine services and encounters, measurement of their form, frequency, effectiveness, safety, quality, outcomes, cost, comparison with mainstream medicine and research due to standardized terms and definitions nationally and internationally. It enables recording epidemiological data about disorders described in ancient Chinese medicine, commonly used in China, Japan, Korea, and other parts of the world The classification for Traditional Medicine is "SJ37". It came into effect in Jan 2022. The revision is discussed in WHO Report EB144/22 2018.
