Outcomes of Whole Health Implementation in the U.S. Veterans Health Administration. The U.S. Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has adopted a Whole Health approach, shifting the focus from "What’s the matter with you?" to "What matters to you?" to empower Veterans to make meaningful health decisions. Since 2018, Whole Health has been implemented across the VHA system, starting with 18 flagship sites. Large-scale evaluations have shown promising outcomes: opioid use decreased by 38% among Veterans using Whole Health compared to an 11% decrease among those not using it; invasive spine procedures decreased by 20–40% over 18 months; and Veterans with mental health conditions using Whole Health were 2.3 times more likely to engage in evidence-based psychotherapies. Additionally, Black and women Veterans showed greater interest in Whole Health services, and improvements were noted in physical and mental health, healthcare engagement, and overall life purpose.
