Managing Stress Through Relaxation Techniques – National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), United States. Stress is a physical and emotional reaction to challenges that, over time, can contribute to or worsen health problems. Although there is no medication to cure stress, individuals can activate the body's natural "relaxation response" to counteract it. Techniques such as slow, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness can help manage stress by promoting relaxation. Practicing these methods several times a day can prevent the buildup of stress, improve sleep, and increase daily energy.
