World AIDS Day focuses on raising awareness

aidsThe World AIDS Day is celebrated every year on December 1st, and it is an opportunity for people worldwide to fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and remind people who died of this disease. The World AIDS Day was the first global date regarding health and was established in 1988. About 34 million people worldwide have HIV. Over 25 million died due to the virus between 1981 and 2007 worldwide, one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Thanks to recent advances in access to antiretroviral therapy, HIV positive people can now live longer and in better health. Furthermore, it was confirmed that antiretroviral therapy prevents the transmission of the virus from an infected person to his sex partner.
