Evidence-Informed Policy

“Evidence-informed health policymaking is an approach to policy decisions that aims to ensure that decision making is well-informed by the best available research evidence” [1].

EVIPNet Global

The "Evidence-Informed Policy Network" (EVIPNet) is a WHO initiative, launched in 2005, that promotes the systematic use of health research evidence in policy formulation. At the global level, EVIPNet brings together experts and institutions from around the world to develop new approaches to put the knowledge produced into practice, determine the best strategies for knowledge implementation and offer support for training sessions at regional levels [2].

EVIPNet Brazil

EVIPNet Brazil is an initiative that originated in 2007, currently coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology (Decit) of the Secretary of Science, Technology and Strategic Inputs (SCTIE) of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and its purpose is to establish a network to foster and support evidence-informed policy development in Brazil. The Health Evidence Centers are subsidiary initiatives of EVIPNet Brazil, whose objective is to promote knowledge management and disseminate scientific evidence produced by health research [4].

EVIPNet Meetings

The EVIPNet Brazil and EVIPNet Global Meetings will take place, respectively, from 9 to 11 and from 15 to 17 November 2021. They seek to bring together managers, policy makers, researchers, civil society representatives, specialists and representatives of institutions operating in the Evidence-Informed Policy. Both events aim to discuss innovative strategies and exchange experiences related to the institutionalization of the use of evidence in the formulation and implementation of policies, and the management of health services, against the backdrop of lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic.

About the Window of knowledge

The Evidence-Informed Policy (EIP) Window of Knowledge was designed to inform and showcase EIP to health managers, policy makers, researchers, students and the civil society interested in the subject. The showcase intends to be a tool for the users, providing ready made searchs on the Virtual Health Library (VHL) database, along with links of materials and databases on the EIP methodology, aiding on the implementation and execution of this method. The dissemination of the EIP methodology is essential for policymaking and for decision-making in health.

The Window of knowledge is a resource of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) developed by BIREME that aims to provide visibility and access to the main documents and other information resources on a priority topic in health. The VHL Regional Portal makes available its collection of Knowledge Showcases. Among them, the Covid-19 Window of knowledge available in three languages, deserves special mention.
