The creation of the EORTC was greeted, by the US National Cancer Institute, as the most important development in therapeutic research on cancer in Europe\". Today, the EORTC stands as a firm and reliable independent academic research organisation, which gathers a unique network of 2500 especialists from 24 countries. About 7000 new patients are treated according the EORTC protocols.
