ACOSOG was initiated in 1998 as a multi-institutional clinical trials group to conduct randomized trials, primarily evaluating the surgical management of patients with malignant solid tumors. ACOSOG is funded as a cooperative agreement through the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Originally based in Chicago at the American College of Surgeons, the Group relocated to Duke University Medical Center in January 2001 to establish an academic base.
