Relief of Pain and Suffering

Series of articles on methods of pain reduction, beginning in the 19th century when ether and opium were widely used, until the discovery of aspirin in 1897. Attempts to map pain and the problem of measurement are discussed. Additional articles address the issue of suffering in relation to the hospice movement and dying.
