Cancer is the name given to a set of more than 100 diseases that have in common the uncontrolled growth (malignant) cells that invade tissues and organs and can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body.
The World Cancer Day is an initiative of UICC, an organization that works to prevent millions of deaths each year, through awareness and education about the disease, and encourage governments and individuals to support the cause and fight for control of cancer . Formalized in 2005, the World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4 by several countries.
With the slogan “ Not beyond us ” the campaign 2015 will highlight the solutions that exist in all stages of cancer, and that they are within reach.
The campaign will explore how we can implement what we already know, in the areas of prevention, early detection, treatment and care, and in turn, opens up the exciting prospect that can impact the global cancer burden – for the better.
The 2015 campaign will center on four key words:
• Choosing a healthy life
• Delivering the early detection
• Achieving treatment for all
• Maximize the quality of life
