
On December 12, 2012, a United Nations resolution, approved by full consensus, recognized universal access to health as a human right and declared Universal Health Day.
On December 10, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed by the United Nations General Assembly, which designated December 10 as Human Rights Day.
In accordance with Resolution CD50.R8 “Health and Human Rights”, the PAHO Directing Council has called on its Member States to disseminate human rights instruments applicable to health, especially among groups in the greatest conditions of vulnerability.
This mandate is particularly relevant for the LGBT community, since it bears relation to the ability of these people to access and utilize health services.
