Viral hepatitis – a group of infectious diseases that include hepatitis A, B, C, D and E – affects millions of people worldwide, since it leads to acute and chronic liver diseases and causes the death of about 1.4 million people each year. Nevertheless, hepatitis disease remains to a large extent forgotten or unknown.
On July 28 of each year, the World Health Organization and its partners celebrate World Hepatitis Day in order to raise awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis and the diseases it causes.
